Yuri Kimono - Black Denim
We love kimonos because they can dress up even jeans-and-T-shirt days.
We made this Yuri kimono from black denim.
Part of the Patched collection, the back of it is patched with an image of the Tigmamanukan.
This mythical bird was believed by the Tagalogs of pre-cololonial Philippines to be the creature that cracked open the bamboo from where came the island's first man and woman. If you encounter a Tigmamanukan and it flies to the right, legend says you will be blessed with good fortune. The Tigmamanukan on this Yuri kimono of course flies towards that lucky direction.
An oversized feather sits on the shoulder of the kimono.
We used a fresh new technique that we call Embroidered Drawing to draw and embroider on the Yuri. It involves freehand machine-sewing and hand-embroidery.
