indigo-dyed kaftan no. 3

We’re very excited to show you the second batch of our one-of-a-kind indigo kaftans.
A collaboration with Tagum-taguan Dyeing Studio, this kaftan is hand-dyed using pigments from “tagum,” local indigo grown and processed right here in the Philippines.
Tagum-taguan used the itajime shape resist technique to create unique patterns on the kaftans. It is a meticulous process that you can watch in this video.
After the dyeing, we brought the kaftans back to our atelier, where we played with shapes some more by applying free-style hand- and machine-embroidery, creating a unique marriage between dye and thread.
This is kaftan no. 3 in a limited-edition series of 10 new kaftans.
